We’re super happy that we finally settled, but we still feel (almost constantly) the urge to travel.
Sadly we hadn’t had much oportunities to do so this year. One reason was that we moved into a new apartment, what basically burned all our savings, but also our jobs, which just don’t give us much flexibility right now.
As much we love Amsterdam, from time to time we need to leave the city.
That’s why I got super excited, when I realised, that Aga and me are both off on Thursday and Friday – so I could book us a quick ‘Get Away’ to Wijk aan Zee.
The village
is located at the North Sea Coastline, in North Holland. Even it has become a popular tourist destination, it’s still known for being traditionally.
Getting there: 30min by train from Amsterdam to Beverwijk and from there it’s only 10min by bus to Wijk aan Zee.
The Best: Wijk aan Zee is a real Budget Place. The prices are not comparable to Amsterdam, Zandvoort or Castricum aan Zee – it’s way cheaper in Wijk aan Zee!
The Beach
Most important for us is the beach (of course!!!!)
We were ecstatic after we got a first glimpse of the wide bright beach.
If the ocean had been just a bit brighter, you could almost believe that you are on a beach in the Caribbean.
And even on a sunny Friday were almost no guests there. Nothing like Zandvoort, were you have lie towel next to towel…
Romantic Sunset – Dinner at „Het hoge Duin“
Date-Night is always very important for us.
That’s why we treat ourselves regularly with special dates. (Mostly in combination with food and plenty of wine).
This time we went to a romantic sunset dinner at the beach hotel „Het hoge Duin“.
Already before the trip I spottet their beautiful terrace on Tripadvisor and knew immediately, that Aga and me would spend our Date-Night on those romantic swings.
But not only the wine and the terrace were great, but also the three course menu in the restaurant was delicious.
Not to forget, that the Chef created me some yummi vegan alternatives.
After dinner it was wonderful sipping our wine and watching the sunset, just the two of us, on the terrace in middle of the dunes.
Nightlife
After our romantic dinner, we went back to our hotel
There was life-music and quite a nice and easy going atmosphere.
But…let’s be honest. That’s not our idea of a Friday night.
Usually we feel too tired to stay up late and decide not to let out our inner dance machine – for the sake of the next day.
That’s why we skipped the life music and went directly to our room.
After those two days we felt so relaxed! (Aga slept most of the day by the beach and I finished a book…and started already the next one).
But we also realised it’s not enough, both of us are in serious need of a proper holiday!
Right now we’re working on a solution (not to travel sucks!) but until we found one, we will definitely keep on exploring more places in the Netherlands.
Because after Wijk aan Zee Aga and me are both huge fans of the Dutch coastline!
